MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A 14-year-old  remained in the hospital on Tuesday evening after being shot while walking home from a holiday event.

Witnesses said Julius Wade was walking home from the Martin Luther King Junior day parade when shots were fired along Northwest 60th Street in Brownsville on Monday.

Miami-Dade Police said he was shot in the left arm but the bullet also pierced his chest area.

Wade was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

His cousin, Tariq Bailey, who was with him at the time of the shooting said Wade is doing better, but hopes the gunmen lay off the violence.

"I think they need to stop the crime. They need to chill out with that. Everybody was having fun," said Bailey.

Bailey said he doesn't believe his cousin was the intended target.

Police are still searching for the shooter.

Anyone with information should call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
