MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A teacher's assistant at a Broward County school is out of a job after he allegedly had inappropriate relations with a student.

Smith was arrested December 1, 2014, when the allegations first surfaced, but is out on bond now.

Miramar Police say he started having private conversations with a 16-year-old female student in September. She's a student at Whispering Pines in Miramar , a school for students with intellectual, emotional or behavioral disabilities.

"I am very surprised," said one mother who didn't want to give her name. "They should have informed us because these kids are all in one place. It's elementary, middle school and high school together."

According to the Miramar police report, from September-December, Smith and an 11th grader followed each other on Instagram, the popular photo-sharing social media platform.

The 11th grade student told police she was also  having "inappropriate conversations" with Smith using a phone app called KIK. Police said he messaged the girl a picture of his privates, as well as a sexually explicit video. The girl said Smith also touched her bottom and her breasts over her clothes. The police report said Smith asked the 16-year-old if she would give him oral sex and let him perform oral sex on her.

Smith would take the student out of the classroom where he would touch her inappropriately in a lewd manner, police said.

Detectives said Smith admitted to sending the picture and to touching her.

CBS4's MaryAnn Martinez went to the Lauderhill address listed for Smith on his arrest report, but didn't get an answer.

Drew with Broward Schools, in response to the allegations, said in a statement, that "student safety is always the district's priority."

The statement also reads, "Stefon Smith was a probationary employee (teacher assistant) at Whispering Pines. Immediately upon becoming aware of the allegations, the school's leadership removed him from the classroom and notified law enforcement. He is no longer working at the school."

The police report said Smith admitted to touching the teen's leg and sending the picture and video of himself.

Smith has an upcoming hearing for these charges at the end of January.
