CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) - Every Tuesday and Thursday, a group of soft ball players get together at the Coral Gables Youth Center - fielding a group of nearly 40 players, all above the age of 65.

They call themselves the "Young Viejos'' or the "Young Old Men".

Injuries and old age have caught up to some players, so it's not unusual to see pinch runners, or players asking for a lending hand on defense.

The team scoreboard along one of the dugouts reads "Life begins at 65."

One player seems to defy all the odds – 97-year-old Tony Snetro.

The World War II veteran may have lost a step or two on the field, but hasn't lost his sense of humor.

"Once in a while I'll get a hit, then they all celebrate. Both teams celebrate!" Snetro says.

When CBS 4 caught up with Tony and the "Young Viejos" the playful banter could be heard throughout the park.

Walter Harris, 71, said "Everyone here has to feel young playing with Tony. He's 26-years older than I am."

Despite 78 being the average age if its members, CBS 4 News was told they haven't had a serious incident or need for an ambulance, but if someone doesn't show up to a game or practice  - teammates will check up on each other just to make sure everything is alright.
