"Once the person sees it on the news, we get a tip that comes in stating that this individual has actually done this before in Coconut Grove," said Sgt. Henry Guzman of South Miami Police.

As of Friday, Ana Amaya Fraguio, 59, was being held in jail.

Police said she walked into the store called Bhoom Shanti located at 5830 Sunset Drive around noon on December 16, 2014.

Surveillance cameras were rolling as, authorities said, she took $31,000 dollars worth of jewelry, put it into her purse and walked out of the store.

Items stolen include a diamond rose cut bracelet, bangles and a tennis bracelet.

Police said they have recovered the jewelry.

"We're very pleased with the outcome," said salesperson Joann T. "Monetarily, it helps us recover our investment. It really boosts morale in the community. It also lets other people with bad intentions know that if you come to South Miami and you come to Bhoom Shanti you will get caught."

Store employees who were there when the theft occurred  were stunned by how she did it.

"She was calm. She never looked like she was nervous. She really knows how to operate," said witness Lilian Calvo.

Police said surveillance video shows Fraguio scouring the jewelry and using customers who were already shopping as blocks.

"She tried to distract, through talking to the different individuals and asking questions about different pieces of jewelry and actually bends down and puts the jewelry in her purse," said Guzman.

Court records show Fraguio has been arrested before on petit theft and grand theft charges.

On Friday, Police thanked the public for their help in making the capture.

"South Miami wants to thank the viewers and everyone that looked at the video and took the time to actually call in and called the tip line to call in South Miami.  It's because of people like you that we're able to take this individual off the street," said Guzman.
