Gay Marriage Could Promise Profits

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Since Monday, lots of gay couples have rushed to the courthouse to get married, often with the sound of clicking news cameras making it difficult to hear vows being exchanged.

But the mad rush won't last, and those in the wedding business are preparing for a boom in more traditional - and expensive - ceremonies.

Wedding photographer Liam Crotty scouted a location on Miami Beach Tuesday, and viewed legalized gay marriage as picture perfect.

"We are extremely excited," said Crotty, who owns Photography By Liam. "We were on track to do 50 weddings this year, and with the legalization of same-sex marriage we are expecting a big bump."

At the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, a popular wedding venue, director Cindy Brown expects popularity to grow quickly.

"One couple, one same-sex male couple, has reserved the garden for their wedding already," Brown said.

Hotel managers across Miami Beach are looking forward to hosting gay marriage parties, not just from the local area, but across the country.

"We are a wedding destination spot," said Jaime Escobar, manager of the Stiles Hotel. "It really opens up a whole new avenue for not only hotels, but for special events, for catering. We are really looking forward to this.  It's more reason to celebrate."

With all that celebrating there will be lots of wedding bouquets to be tossed, and someone will have to make them.

"It's fantastic," said Christopher Mondejar at The Flower Bazaar floral shop on Miami Beach.  "It's a huge impact on the business. We're going to have couples coming and asking for quotes left and right, especially this coming year because it just happened."
