Auto Sales Top Charts For End Of 2014

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It was great news for the auto industry.

Nearly 17 million cars and trucks were sold in the U.S. in 2014 making it a banner year for carmakers.

"2014 was an incredible year hard to beat," said Dave Mathews, the GM for Toyota of Weston.

Mathews said 2014 was the best year in five years and his dealership is not alone.

According to auto analysts new vehicle sales rose 6 percent in 2014 and with the economy improving hopeful drivers are now feeling comfortable in buying a new car.

"Interest rates have come down.  Car buying has become affordable, gas prices have stabilized and the overall cost of ownership is down making it appealing to people buying cars," said Mathews.

But with all the good news also came bad news for the auto industry, 2014 was the worst year for auto recalls in U.S. history.

50 million cars and trucks were affected however analysts predict 2015 could be even better.

"We are still expecting growth but coming off a banner year we have to take a deep breath and say here we go again," said Mathews.

For those who have been planning on buying a new car, now may be a good time to do so because most manufactures are keeping the 2014 incentives until the end of the week.
