Pitbull Rings In The New Year In Downtown Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- When the clock strikes midnight in Downtown Miami, Mr. Neon will meet Mr. 305.

International superstar Pitbull is set to give a free concert to thousands of New Year's Eve revelers at Bayfront Park, just feet from where the Big Orange, aka Mr. Neon, will ascend the side of the Intercontinental Hotel during the countdown to 2015.

"We are coming from Los Angeles, California and we hear Pitbull is here," Mina Behmard said.

"I get to go home, because I'm actually from Wisconsin, and say I got to see Pitbull for New Years Eve. Like who gets to say that," Claudia Cervantes exclaimed.

The free show headlined by Miami's own Pitbull is to rival New York's Time Square celebration

The performance was announced Tuesday, and word spread like wildfire, with more than 150,000 people of all ages expected to pack Downtown Miami to ring in the new year.

Nicole Reyes is just eight years old, but she planned to stay up until midnight.
When asked what she was excited about, she replied, "Mr. 305 Pitbull."

"It's so kind of him to do this for the people. Everybody loves him. The Spanish community loves him. The world loves him," Noemi Santana said.

The time before the concert was spent reflect on the year that was and what's to come.

"To be happy. To have lots of love," Crystal Meira said about what she hopes for 2015.

Garreth Johnson has high hopes. "For my family and everybody to have a better life," he said.

And Mina Behmard is looking for "Peace in the world".

Pitbull was scheduled to arrive at Bayfront Park at 11:30 p.m.,just in time to ring in the new year.

Miami Police planned to have 300 officers on hand to help keep the crowds safe.
