MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) – After 22 horses were poisoned by tainted feed, the Masterpiece Equestrian Center in Davie has reached a settlement with the company that produced and sold the feed.
Lakeland Animal Nutrition has said the contaminated was limited to the feed at Masterpiece. Six of the 22 horses have died since October.
The terms of the settlement are confidential, said the attorney representing Masterpiece and the owners of the 20 horses. Andy Yaffa said Monday his clients will be able to care for their ailing horses and purchase new horses.
The deaths are blamed on an additive safe for cattle and some poultry but toxic to horses.
General Manager of Lakeland Animal Nutrition, Jonathan Lang, said the company has honored its pledge to bring restoration to the center.
