MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A family is without a home for the holidays after a car slammed into the side of their house Monday morning.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the home at NW 105th Street and 11th Avenue will have to be demolished after a Pontiac crashed into it at around 1:30 a.m.

"I just woke up and ran for my life," said Abigail Beauvil, 19.

Beauvil said she and her younger sister Deborah were woken up by derbis falling on top of them.

"The side that's really messed up, that's where I sleep. Like my head is right there where it's all crushed and everything," said Deborah Beauvil who was knocked out of bed by the impact.  "I'm pretty sure the wall fell on me."

The girls were trapped in the room for a short time. They told CBS4's Gaby Fleischman that they couldn't open the front door.

Arriving rescue crews did not immediately remove the vehicle from the structure because they were afraid it might collapse.

In addition to the massive hole in the wall caused by the crash, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue workers found another problem.

"On the corner of the structure, it took out a major support and also we noticed extensive termite damage, so we are waiting on a structural engineer to evaluate the structure and see what to do from there," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Pedro Rodriguez.

By Monday afternoon a county structural engineer deemed the home unsafe to live in and stated it would have to be knocked down.

Police are still investigating what caused the driver, who was not injured, to lose control.

The owner of the Pontiac didn't want to talk on camera but said his friend was behind the wheel and was speeding when he lost control of the car. He said his friend took off before cops got there.

The girls say they feel blessed they made it out unharmed.

"That's a blessing from God because of you look in there it's crazy a we could have been trapped we could have died," Deborah Beauvil said.

The girls and their mother will spend Christmas with relatives until they find a new home.
