MIAMI (CBSMiami) --The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County on Friday  announced an end to the dengue fever alert.

It was initiated in August, following confirmed local transmission of the mosquito-borne disease.

Officials said they lifted the alert due the drop in risk of exposure thanks to the reduced amount of mosquitoes breeding and cooler temperatures in the county.

While it has been lifted, the department said they will continue surveillance and prevention efforts. They also warn residents to continue  to be cautious and take precautions by draining containers of standing water around their homes and using repellent when outdoors.
