He was tried for espionage, revealing state secrets and other acts against state security.

Rolando Sarraff, who lives in Havana, said he hasn't heard from his son since he was supposedly released and is worried.

"There's this mystery with my son. I want to know where my son is and want him to contact me, nothing more, to know whether he's here in Cuba or over there. That's my message, as a father, I want to know what does my son have," said Sarraff.

Sarraff said his son would always call in the afternoon, but failed to do so on Tuesday. He said when his son failed to come home on Wednesday, he went to the jail to see if there was something wrong. Sarneff said jail officials told he and wife not to worry and that it was "for the better."

Neither Cuban nor American officials would confirm if Sarraff was still on the island.

Before he was arrested Sarraff helped the U.S. crack the "Wasp Network" in Florida. The "Network" was a Cuban spy ring that included members of the Cuban Five, the last three of whom were released in exchange for Sarraff, American contractor Alan Gross and 53 other prisoners.
