MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – The mayor of Miramar issued a press release Thursday night to say she will ask for more police officers to be hired in the city.

Miramar Mayor Lori C. Moseley will urge City Manager Kathleen Woods-Richardson to bring a plan to the Commission board soon.

"I think we have a very hard working, community- conscious police department that continues to wait patiently for new officers. Though the City reports a decline in its crime rate, these efforts are being realized with fewer cops on the street," stated Moseley in the release.

Moseley believes 8 to 10 additional officers are necessary for the city.

The request for more officers comes after the groundbreaking ceremony for a 65,000-square-foot headquarters for the department that will also house the city's Emergency Operations Center.
