MIAMI (CBSMiami) – In Cuba, the moments after the news broke of the
Cuban spies release, those living in the island took to social media to express their excitement.

Almost immediately after President Barack Obama and Raul Castro's address the main topic of conversation on social media was just that.

The majority of the tweets coming out of the island were in a celebratory mood.

"Live to tell the tale! Barack Obama will announce measures on a historic day for Cuba and USA," tweeted Elizabeth Perez.

Another man said, "There are a lot of emotions to hold in. Right now Cuba in on front of the tv and the radio...today should be a great day!"

Yisney Diaz wrote, "How much I want to run, shout and go on the streets to hug everyone. Hurray."

According to the World Bank around a quarter of Cubans used the internet and although access is heavily regulated and very expensive, Cubans on the island managed to log on and used the hashtag United States, Raul Castro, Alan Gross and free the five.

Many also expressed their excitement about the U.S. release of the three Cuban spies who in Cuba are referred to as heroes.

Juan Carlos Diaz wrote, "The 5 Cuban heroes are free. In exchange for Alan Gross they are the 3 that were left."
