Tainted Feed Claims Another Davie Horse

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – Tainted feed has decimated the horse population at a Davie farm and on Monday it claimed another life.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the owners of Foxy – an 8-year-old quarter horse – felt the horse was suffering too much and euthanized her by injection.

Foxy marks the fourth death since October at the Davie boarding farm and riding school.

In total, 22 horses were sickened by the suspected poisonous food at Masterpiece Equestrian Center.

All the animals have been given a death sentence and their owners and riders are trying to spend as much time as possible with them as possible.

Lakeland Animal Nutrition, the company responsible for the feed sold to the farm, has since recalled and stopped production of the product.

The owners of the horses suspected the feed contained a powerful antibiotic called monensin that is lethal to horses.

Common symptoms are heart failure and paralysis. There is no cure

Lakeland tested the product at the horse owners' request and confirmed their suspicions.

The company blamed for the poisoning Lakeland animal nutrition has stopped manufacturing Horse feed and acknowledged the accident.
