Police: Mentally Handicapped Miami Beach Woman Raped

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – Two men reportedly dragged a passed out mentally ill woman behind a Miami Beach bar, where one of them raped her.

Miami Beach police said they were alerted to a sexual assault occurring in an alley near Espanola Way and Collins Court at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

When the officers pulled up to the scene, they said they watched as Derrick Barnes dismounted the the woman. According to the arrest form, Barnes' pants and underwear were still at his ankles exposing his genitals and the woman was naked. The form also stated the officers found a used condom on some cardboard boxes near the woman.

Witness Joel Vazquez Ortiz told police he watched as Barnes and Bobby Lee Bryant dragged the woman to the alley next to the Lost Weekend Bar.

According to witness Travis Carey, Bryant was acting as a lookout for Barnes. Bryant would allegedly wave off people walking by; telling them there was nothing to see.

The woman was interviewed with police on the scene, where they discovered she suffers from a mental illness.

When authorities asked the woman for her age, she replied she was 12 years old. But it is reported she is around 40 years of age. She also couldn't provide police with a name, date of birth or location where she was staying. She is presumed to be homeless.

The woman was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center for evaluation.

Barnes is being charged with sexual battery with someone over 12 but mentally ill, kidnapping, battery and indecent exposure.

Bryant is being charged with kidnapping and accessory after the fact.
