DAVIE (CBSMiami) - A memorial service was held Sunday for the teenager who was killed while riding a horse in Davie.

Family and friends of 16-year-old Lucia Rodrigo rode horses Sunday morning in honor of the teenager.

Rodrigo was found unresponsive next to her horse while she was riding in Southwest Ranches earlier this month.

She was part of the honor society and is described as always having a smile on her face.

"She was loving, caring, she went out of her way for other people," said Diana McClure. "She really considered other people when making decisions on things. She was a really sweet girl, she lived her life for horses."

"She passed away doing what she loved, everyone is heartbroken," added Tina West.

It's unclear exactly what happened, but a woman who helped teach Lucia how to ride told CBS4 News she believes the horse, an 18 to 19-year-old Quarter Horse named Brownie, may have suffered an aneurysm and died on the spot, throwing the young woman from the animal.

Witnesses said they saw the horse running quickly.

Investigators are trying to gather details as to how they died.
