Columbus High Football Team Heading To State Title Game

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Christopher Columbus High School varsity football team is preparing to travel up to Orlando for the state championship game against Apopka High School.
This is the third time in the school's 56-year history that the Columbus football team will play in the state championship.
To celebrate the occasion and give the team some added motivation and positive energy, Columbus High School will hold a special pep-rally and send-off for their football team.
The rally will take place at the Cristopher Columbus High School football field, located at 3000 SW 87th Avenue in Miami, on Friday at 1:15 p.m.
The event will last for approximately 45 minutes. The team will board their bus promptly at 2 p.m. and travel up to Orlando for the state title game, which will be on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Orlando Citrus Bowl.
The last time that Columbus High played in a state championship game was in 1982, when the team lost against the Pensacola Woodham Titans.
Featured on that '82 team were Mike Shula, Marc Buoniconti and Alonzo Highsmith.
Members of the class of 1982 football team will attend the pep-rally, as well as other school alumni. Also attending will be the current Columbus football team, the entire Columbus student body and faculty and the Columbus High School band.
