Broussard "Baffled" By Miami Heat, Questions Josh McRoberts' Fit

By WQAM Staff

The Miami Heat are off to a 10-11 start after escaping Phoenix last night with a 103-97 win to snap a four-game skid, currently good for seventh in the Eastern Conference. Count ESPN NBA reporter Chris Broussard among those perplexed by Miami's mediocrity in the the first quarter of the season.

"I'm a bit baffled," Broussard said on WQAM's Marc Hochman Show with Zach Krantz on Tuesday, hours before the Heat would beat the Suns. "I don't think McRoberts has worked out for them.

"What I've heard is he's a real strong-minded guy. He kind of does his own thing and that doesn't really work in Miami."

Meanwhile the versatile McRoberts responded with one of his best games as a member of the Heat last night, tallying 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting with a whopping seven assists. With 60-plus games remaining, Broussard isn't ready to write the team off entirely just yet.

"I'm not ready to kill them...  they have played some top teams," he said. "Some of their losses are just good losses. I'll give them a little bit of time, but they have to pick it up and put it together."

Conversation shifted to Miami's issues defending, where they rank 26th in defensive efficiency. Is it a fixable problem?

"That is one of their huge problems," Broussard pointed out. "The coaching staff has to get them playing better defense.

"They're gonna just have to become a solid team defense, probably more position defense rather than getting a lot of steals and gambling."

The Miami Heat look to tack on another win tonight in Denver, against a Nuggets team battling some demons of their own.
