MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A safety organization has released a report warning shoppers to check and double check the toys on their holiday shopping list.

Every three minutes a child goes to the emergency room for a toy-related injury.

Each year, a report titled "Trouble in Toyland" names some of the most dangerous toys on the market and educates parents how to stop these injuries.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the most common dangers are choking and toxicity.

For kids under the age of two, choking, indigestion and asphyxiation are the biggest problems.

It's common knowledge that toddlers tend to put everything in their mouths. To circumvent this issue, a child three or younger should only play with toys that have parts which can't fit through the opening of a toilet paper tube.

Also, avoid toys with magnets. Once inside the digestive tract, they can cause ulcers, bowel blockage and severe infection.

A third tip, avoid long chords or strings. Not only toys, but clothing with draw strings around the neck can be dangerous when they get caught on another fixed object.

For kids over the age of five, many of their injuries are caused from non-motorized scooters, primarily because the kids aren't using helmets.

Toy weapons are also a consistent problem. Toy knives and swords often have sharp edges. Plastic guns and sling shots are often pointed in the faces of other kids.

Several toxic toys also made 2014's list.

The report noted some sheriffs' badges exceeded the allowable limit for lead.

One tambourine contained almost nine times the amount of allowable chromium.

But toys containing phthalates are an even bigger problem this year. Three of the 24 toys on 2014's dangerous toy list contained excessive levels.

The 'Hello Kitty Bracelet and Hair Clips Accessory Set,' the 'Leopard Pattern Rubber Duck' by Infantino and the 'Dora the Explorer Backpack' all contained excessive amounts of phthalates. The acceptable level is 1000 parts per million, but the backpack has two parts that went beyond the legal limit. One part had 3,000 parts per million and the other had 200,000 parts per million.
