POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) -- Broward Sheriff's deputies have arrested the driver they said ran over and killed a woman on Saturday evening.

Lawton Cohen, 53, was arrested on Sunday evening at his home in Tamarac. The truck was parked in his driveway.

Around 5:45 p.m. the Broward Sheriff's Office SWAT-Fugitive Unit took Cohen into custody without incident.

He will be charged with first-degree murder in the death of Barbara "Bobbie" Sapp, who died Saturday night in the parking lot of Rocky's Food Store on Hammondville Road.

The incident happened just after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Deputies say Cohen,  in his Dodge pick-up truck, got into an argument with Sapp.

In the midst of the heated argument, Cohen put the car into drive, drove forward and Sapp fell to the ground.

Cohen then backed up the vehicle up over her, then put the vehicle in drive and drove over her a second time then sped off.

Emergency crews rushed the woman to Broward Health North Hospital where she later died.

The victim's cousin, Shanda Davis, said Sapp, a mother of three, was well known in the area and so is Cohen.

"She's cool. She don't bother nobody and she'll do anything to help you. I really don't have the words to explain it and I know that a lot of people know what happened and I know they know the person and someone needs to man up and turn the guy in," said Davis.
