She originally left for a friend's house, but changed her mind and decided to go home. As she drove into her apartment complex, she noticed someone tailgate her through the guard gate.

The woman said she got out of her car and began to walk her dog when the man from the gas station approached her again and made romantic advances.

She said got back in her car and when she attempted to get out again, the man ran up to her with a knife in hand, police said.

"At that moment he took me by the hair and put the knife to my throat. It's really scary to be followed and have someone at your house," the woman said.

She screamed, getting the attention of neighbors. The man then tried to get her to tell the neighbors she was his wife and they were having a fight.

A neighbor, however, didn't buy it.

"He said 'I need to hear from her she's okay' and I wouldn't say anything," the woman said.

The neighbors called police.

After taking the money the woman had withdrawn from the ATM, the man drove off in his car.

According to the woman, the man stalked her for nearly 45 minutes.

The man, described as being 6-foot-tall and about 150 lbs, had a pointed goatee and distinctive acne scars on his cheeks. He was seen driving a dark gray, four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota Corolla.

Officer Don Reynolds said we can all learn something from this random attack.

"Look in your mirror. Make sure no one is behind you. If you make a left and they make a left, you make a right and they make a right, something is wrong.  Be aware of your surroundings," Reynolds said.

Anyone who may know who he is should call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
