BROWARD (CBSMiami) – Burglars in Broward got spooked on Halloween when BAT detectives spotted them.

Broward Sheriff's Office Burglary Apprehension Team (BAT) detectives watched as a black Audi strolled through Hollywood and pulled in behind a parked SUV outside of a day care center at 3:30 p.m. on October 31st.

Detectives said Ahmad Hall, who has a long arrest history and was recently released from jail, was driving the Audi. The car had been reported seen at multiple car burglaries throughout the county, so detectives said they put one and two together.

Surveillance video at Benjamin Academy, located at 5812 Taft Street, showed the burglary in action.

A passenger jumped out of the back seat and smashed the silver GMC's window with a brick. The thief grabbed the purse and headed back to the car just as parents with their babies were exiting the day care. As soon as the robber got back in the Audi the duo fled.

BAT Unit detectives said they tried to stop Hall, but he intentionally rammed the undercover cop car. Though he eluded the ground team, BSO's Aviation Unit spotted Hall in Miami Gardens and he was arrested.

Aside from the burglary conveyance and aggravated battery, Hall had 17 outstanding warrants.

Detectives are still looking for the passenger who bailed out of the car and ran.

Anyone who recognizes the second suspect can report information to BAT at (954) 247-6029 or report anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
