MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Friends and family of Jesus Menesus, the teen electrocuted on Monday night, gathered at a makeshift memorial on Tuesday night.

Kids like Jonathan Gomez are dealing with the death of their friend just 24 hours after he was electrocuted while fetching a loose basketball at an FPL substation.

"He was my best friend," said Gomez. "My partner, my good friend. And now he's gone. He will always be in our hearts no matter what, and I will always care for him."

Tuesday night a group of Menesus' friends gathered to remember him for the loving, kind, free spirit they say he was, pledging never to forget him.

"He was just a really sweet person really kind and honest and open to everything," said Abigail Lind.

Lind wrote a song about her childhood friend with the lyrics "home again" making up the chorus.

"I think that when you are born you come to earth and serve a purpose and when your time is done God takes you back and you go home where you truly came from, and that's basically what this song is about. He is an angel and he went back home."

And now in his absence, friends vow not to let his death be in vain, and to remind each other never to hop the fence that ultimately took their friends life.

Miami-Dade Superintendent Alberto Carvalho tweeted this reaction Monday night: "The @MDCPS family unites in deep thought and prayer for the young Coral Gables student who dramatically lost his life at a community park."

FPL released the following statement on Monday night: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. FPL personnel are on the scene cooperating with local law enforcement who are working to determine what happened."
