It was a random act of violence that has left the mother fearing for her life and that of her daughter.

On Sept. 30th, Miami Police said the mom was forced into a car at gunpoint and was told she'd have to pay a ransom to save her daughter's life

She said she was was walking along NW 7th Street in Miami near NW 34th Avenue when she was approached by two people in a white van.

The woman was told her son was in trouble. When she said she didn't have a son, the duo quickly changed their story. They produced a black pistol, forcing the mom inside a gray passenger van.

They then claimed the woman's daughter was in trouble. When the woman tried to call her mom, the woman wasn't able to talk for very long.

The blackmailers managed to convince the mom that her daughter's life was really in danger and demanded $30,000. They drove the woman to her apartment where she grabbed valuables like jewelry in an attempt to save her daughter's life.

"Thank God (the victim) is okay, her daughter is okay, but we're in fear that these people are going to strike again," said Cruz.

Police said this isn't too common and it's very effective because no one is willing to risk their children's lives.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471- TIPS.
