HIALEAH (CBSMiami) - Hialeah Police are looking for four men behind a brazen broad daylight robbery outside of a warehouse that sent a worker to the hospital over his gold chain.

The victim is in critical but stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to police.  The man's wife told CBS4 News that one of the suspects fired several shots and that one of those shots hit her husband in the stomach.

Part of a warehouse section in Hialeah was roped off by crime scene tape as police talked to witnesses and investigators gathered evidence in the shooting.

Those who live close by say they heard shots shortly after 4:00 p.m. near E 10th Ct. and E 43rd St. "I heard shots but I wasn't sure," said Rosa Martinez.

Hialeah Police say the victim was working outside the warehouse when a black SUV with four black males approached him.  A witness said one of the men got out of that SUV and went straight for the victim's gold chain.  "He got out of the car and tried to take his chain and he shot him in the stomach," said the witness, who did not want to be identified.  "Another person who was there tried to hit the suspect with something he had in his hands and he fired two or three shots at that person.  He missed."

A woman who lives in the neighborhood says she had something similar nearly happen to her a couple of months back as she was walking in the neighborhood.  "One of them got out of the car and was going to cross to where I was but there was a man behind their car and he started honking and that scared them and they took off," said nearby resident Sonia Targarona.

The shooting left those in this neighborhood frightened and determined to take precautions.  "I used to go on walks, walk to the market but not anymore.  I don't go now because I'm scared," said Targarona.

"The streets are filled with robberies.  You have to be careful," added Martinez.

The victim's wife told CBS4 News that he's worked at that warehouse fixing and painting boats for about a year.  If you have any information about this case, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
