Police Searching For Coral Gables Flasher

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) - Coral Gables police passed out flyers and warned residents about a flasher who exposed himself to a sunbather.

"That's sad," said Stephanie Grecny, who works in the area of the crime.

"I wouldn't want anything like that to happen to me. People should be careful nowadays. You never know," she told CBS4's Peter D'Oench. "Definitely call the cops if you see him. They need to make sure this doesn't happen again."

On Friday October 3rd, a Coral Gables resident told police she was sunbathing in her backyard near the 200 Block of Mendoza Avenue when a man approached her at around 10:50 a.m.

The woman said the man exposed his genitals and stimulated himself in front of her. He fled shortly after, but the woman said she didn't see what direction he went in.

Police said he covered his face with a t-shirt and do not believe he knew his victim.

Security footage in the neighborhood captured the man before the incident walking by an apartment building at nearby 221 Zamora Avenue and fleeing the area afterwards. He is in his mid to late 20s, has short dark hair, brown eyes and a slight growth on his face.

Authorities said they do not know if this man has exposed himself in the past.

As a precaution, police went door to door passing out flyers on Monday morning.

"I work here and I live down the street," said Coral Gables resident Kim Hernandez. "This concerns me greatly. One thing could lead to another. First it starts off as indecent exposure and could lead to any inappropriate actions."

Neighbor Michele Breaux said, "It's all a little unsettling."

Her husband Chris Breaux said, "Someone walking into someone's yard unannounced and then exposing himself and running off. I hope that's as bad and as high as it gets but you never know."

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the subject is asked to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
