Water Main Break Floods Ft. Lauderdale Streets
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A sloppy mess in one Ft. Lauderdale neighborhood after an underground water main sprung a leak.
A pretty big one in fact.
"I was out walking the dog this morning, and all of a sudden the road in front of erupted and a whole bunch of water plowed out," said Glynn Smith, a resident.
The eight inch main burst in the 2100 block of NE 59th Court flooding streets. City public works crews spent the afternoon isolating the main and making repairs.
Thursday afternoon, officials said the pipe was fixed and the water was turned back on for the community.
Approximately 90 homes in the Imperial Point neighborhood were affected and it was difficult for residents dealing with no water for several hours.
"I was getting ready to do some wash, and we can't do the wash without water," said Mike Hammer.
Another resident, Tony Michaels said he has plenty of clean water on hand.
"I was prepared for hurricane season," he said.
A temporary precautionary boil water notice will be in effect until further notice for approximately 90 households. Testing will be conducted prior to lifting the notice.
City spokesman Matt Little said they are not sure what caused the break, but it had nothing to do with this week's seasonal high tides.
