Escaped Weston Prisoner Caught In Tallahassee

WESTON (CBSMiami) - An escaped Weston prisoner was arrested late Tuesday night.

Damian Fernandez, 21, made it all the way to Tallahassee after allegedly hitting a Broward Sheriff's deputy and then escaping from custody on Wednesday, September 25th.

Tallahassee police arrested Fernandez after they found him holed up with his girlfriend. Authorities are still unsure how he made the lengthy trip.

Fernandez did receive minor help from friends Andrew Gonzalez and Mirko Vall de Ruten, following his escape, BSO said.

One of the 25-year-olds reportedly brought over his own handcuff key and freed the Fernandez. Authorities said the other buddy brought him to his house, let him bathe, gave him clean clothes, let him make phone calls and gave him $20.

Fernandez's initial arrest was for car burglary, petit theft, obstruction without violence, grand theft of a firearm and armed car burglary. His new charges include battery on a law enforcement officer and escape.

His accomplices were arrested on charges of accessory after the fact and conceal/aide of an escaped prisoner.
