'I Love Lucy Live On Stage' Cast Excited For Miami Debut

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - For decades, even now, I Love Lucy was appointment television for millions of Americans. The wacky redhead and her Cuban bandleader husband, along with their lovable landlord best friends, the Mertzes, began on CBS back in 1952.

Now, after a one year national tour, I Love Lucy Live On Stage makes its South Florida premiere at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

Tuesday morning at a meet the press event, the cast and crew chatted up the new show.

Actress Thea Brooks wears Lucy's red hair proudly.

"Lucy and I didn't have a relationship growing up, as I had hippy parents and we had no TV," Brooks said. "Later on, in acting school, I discovered her for my own comedy work. There's no one before or since who's done what she did."

Euriamis Losada, a South Florida native plays Ricky.

"No pressure, right?" Losada joked.  "I've just been studying his life and mostly watching him with her and the love he had for her. It was very palpable; you could see it on screen."

I Love Lucy Live On Stage will place guests in a 1952 setting, even before the curtain opens. The audience will act as members of the Desilu Studio audience actually watching the taping of two famous episodes: "The Benefit" and "Lucy Gets Her Eyes Examined".

Losada, who won two Florida theater awards, said playing this iconic character he grew up watching and making his premiere on stage at home is a dream come true.

"I'm beside myself to be honest. This is where my theater career began," Losada said. "This is where it all started for me, then I moved to LA, and now to have this tour kick off here is so serendipitous to me. I can't believe it."

All of those involved said they hope this show is something Miami audiences will truly treasure.

"What I hope to bring to audiences is that nostalgia, that moment. Let them forget where they are for a moment and just step into this world and believe they are watching Lucy and Ricky," Losada said.

I Love Lucy Live On Stage is on at The Adrienne Arsht Center from September 30th through October 5th.
