Crist Takes His Talks To The Kitchen Table

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Gubernatorial candidate and former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist made a stop in Hollywood Tuesday as part of his kitchen table tour.

With just 35 days until the election, he is focusing on the middle class right at the kitchen table.

He spoke to Democratic a supporter Dale Platt about issues that concerned her including property taxes, power bills, and  multiple jobs.

"I am going to take some notes because this is important," Crist told Platt as he sat in front of her with a notepad and a pen.

Platt told Crist, "I am a widow my husband was on home hospice."

She said she has her son living with her and their bills are crazy.

"We don't use a lot of electricity and our bill is so high," said Platt.

Crist replied to her concern by saying, "One of the problems is Gov. Scott is appointing people to regulate this and they aren't doing it."

Crist was sure to bring up some topics he wanted to focus on by saying "And what about a property insurance? I've noticed that my taxes have gone up."

CBS4's Cynthia Demos asked Crist where he would make up the lost revenue if  he drops property taxes.

Crist responded by saying,"This year we had a $3 billion surplus. We need to have a governor who cares about the little closet and isn't beholden to power and utility companies"

Demos also asked what his plan was now that he is not leading in the polls.

He said, "Do what we're doing...come talk to people, listen to concerns."

Crist also spoke about raising minimum-wage, job creation and gun-control.

"I want to thank you for letting me into your home. Help is on the way," Crist told Platt.

Scott's campaign released a statement in regards to Crist's tour saying, "Almost a million Florida families lost their kitchen tables when they lost their jobs under Charlie Crist so it will be interesting to hear him explain how he failed them as Governor and then quit to run for another office before his first term even ended."

Governor Scott and Crist are set to take to the podium for a debate on October 15th at 7:00 p.m. CBS4's Eliott Rodriguez will be moderating the debate.

Crist said he is ready to discuss his vision for making the economy fare for the middle class.
