FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - The Broward Sheriff's Office has released a sketch of a man they say tried to lure a young girl into his car as she walked to her school bus stop.

"A black Cadillac pulled up next to her," said sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella. "The driver offered her candy, offered her a ride to school and offered her money."

It happened September 23rd. Investigators said the man in pulled up to the 8-year old girl in the 3200 block of NW 3rd Avenue in Pompano Beach.

"He was just following me all the way down, down there," the girl told CBS4.

The girl said learned all about 'stranger danger' when she was little.

"First when I was right there he was asking all kinds of questions, i didn't talk," she told CBS4's Ted Scouten. "And then i went down there (pointing toward the bus stop) and he just completely stopped."

The girl said as she neared her bus stop, the man began to frighten her.

"He was like asking me do I want candy or money or drive to school and I said no and ran," said the girl.

The girl did exactly what she was taught, run and scream and make a lot of noise.

"I'm very proud of her. She did a good job," said the girl's mother Maryssa McCloud. "These things really happen. We see them on TV from time to time but we never think you get the experience. I was scared, shaken, but I have to stay strong for my daughters."

The girl got the attention of a neighbor who already realized trouble was brewing.

This neighbor said she noticed the man cruising around and knew something was not right. She kept her eyes on him.

"When she came back she was running really fast and hysterical and i said what happened. she said some man tried to rape me," said the neighbor who didn't want to be identified in this report. "I saw the car go by and I thought when I saw him, he gave me a creepy feeling. I don't know why. Somebody looks at you and you know you get that creepy feeling, that sick feeling in your stomach."

Surveillance cameras in the neighborhood captured the man cruising past the girl's house in what appears to be a four door, dark colored Cadillac DeVille.

Anyone who can help investigators identify the man is urge to call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
