George Clooney & Amal Alamuddin Arrive In Venice For Star-Studded Wedding

VENICE, ITALY (CBSMiami) -- Actor George Clooney and his bride-to-be Amal Alamuddin have arrived in Venice for what Italian newspapers have already branded the "wedding of the year".

The Oscar winner and bride were photographed waving to photographers and onlookers Friday from a water taxi enroute to the Cipriani Hotel, where Clooney and his guests are staying.

The seven-star hotel was built in 1550. Its 24 rooms are fully booked for the weekend.

The couple was accompanied by Cindy Crawford and her husband, among the many celebrities arriving for the festivities.

The other arrivals include actors Matt Damon and Miguel Ferrer.

Water taxi drivers were spotted on Friday wearing matching jackets embroidered with the couple's initials AG as they stood outside the Cipriani Hotel, where Clooney and his guests are staying.

Flags with the initials were also attached to water taxis berthed in the Venetian Lagoon.

Clooney's friend, former Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni has submitted documents to allow him to officiate the civil ceremony, which is expected to be held at Venice City Hall, in the Palazzo Cavalli on the Grand Canal.

Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, a Beirut-born British national based in London, posted the required legal notice in Britain last month, declaring their intention to marry abroad, specifically in Italy.
