Family Of Hit & Run Victim Asks For Community's Help

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The family of a man hit and killed while crossing the street is asking for the community's help to find the person responsible.

Joseph Williams later died from injuries sustained in the hit and run.

On Friday,Williams' sister Evelyn Guzman and niece Candice Batton gathered to ask for the public's help to find the driver of the car who hit him.

"Other people had to have seen it. Other people have to know something about what happened. Even if the car had to get fixed...somebody knows something," said Batton. "If anyone is even suspicious about something. If they could just call the tip hotline.. anything helps."

Williams was crossing at the 14700 Block of S.W. 280th Street on September 19th just before 1:00 p.m.

At the same time a black, 2006-2011 Chevrolet Impala struck and critically injured Williams and then continued to travel on S.W. 280th Street.

Guzman asked those who encounter a situation similar to that of her brother's to think twice before leaving.

"Accidents happen. Just stop and assist. Call the police. Call an ambulance. Just don't let him sit there like a dog on the street," said Guzman.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
