CBS4 Morning Team's Favorite Places: Bar-B-Ranch
DAVIE (CBSMiami) – Where is your favorite place in South Florida? This week, the CBS4 Morning Team is taking you to their favorite places.
CBS4 Traffic Reporter Vanessa Borge explained on Tuesday why Kennedy Park in Coconut Grove is her favorite place.
Co-anchor Walter Makaula enjoys the outdoors as well but with a country flair.
In the heart of Davie, just a few minutes from I-595, there's the Bar-B-Ranch.
It's the largest, most experienced horseback riding stable in South Florida and they welcome experienced riders as well as beginners.
One of the ranch owners Sam Hurley gave Walter a private riding lesson.
"Just line everything up," said Hurley. "Your head, your hips, your shoulders, your heels. Stay balanced and work together with your horse."
The day started with a walk around the 25-acre ranch where Walter and 'Quantum' could get a little familiar with each other.
It wasn't long before they started to pick up the pace and have some fun.
If you're a beginner, the ranch offers slow trail rides and if you're an experienced rider, you can take one of the horses out for a full gallop.
"We're a public riding stable and we do a lot of riding with kids and beginning riders. But we also have a lot of folks that ride with us that have owned their own horses."
Nature lovers are going to love it here; the ranch is also just a short walk away from the 160 acre Robbins Open Space Preserve.
Hurley's best riding tip, "Try to always have fun."
