Florida Firefighters To Battle King Fire In California

MIAMI (CBSMiami) --  More than 30 Florida firefighters are heading to California to help battle a 90,000 acre fire east of Sacramento, California.

The 34 firefighters are scheduled to leave Tuesday.

"The Florida Forest Service is dedicated to protecting the people, homes and natural resources of this great nation," said Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam. "Thanks to our current low fire danger in Florida, we are able to offer our skilled firefighters to western states while continuing to provide for the safety of our citizens."

Florida crews will help California firefighters on the front-line by manually creating fire breaks around the wildfire to suppress it.

Six Florida Forest Service fire personnel are also heading to California to help with a variety of other wildfire-related positions on the King Fire.

This is the second time a crew has been sent. As of Tuesday, the Florida Forest Service has sent 256 fire officials to help battle the blaze.
