Search Continues For Man Who Shot 3-Year Old During Fight With Mother

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – The search continues for the man who reportedly shot a three-year old boy during a fight with his ex-girlfriend.

It happened Sunday night in the woman's home on NW 82nd Street. The woman's family members said she was with her son Jayden and her new boyfriend when her ex barged in.

"The ex-boyfriend forced his way into the house, kicking down the door. My daughter was there with a friend. They struggled and the ex-boyfriend took out a gun," said Jayden's grandfather Melvin Gomez. "It went off and a bullet hit the boy's leg. Fortunately, he's okay."

Relatives were furious when they heard what had happened to Jayden.

"He could have been killed. He's innocent. He doesn't have anything to do with it," said Gomez.

Police have identified the ex-boyfriend as 20-year old Ricardo Desravines. They're still looking for him.

Gomez says the boy's mother and Desravines dated for about a year and a half. Desravines is not boy's father, but he and the three-year-old mother do have a child together.

The family said they never saw Desravines behave violently in the past, however, police say he should be considered armed and dangerous as he is still on the run.

The Department of Children and Families said they have a prior history with this family. During a shelter hearing Monday afternoon, the judge ruled that the 17-year-old mother could continue living with her two sons, so long as she was under the supervision of her father and grandmother. They have primary custody of the two children.

Aside from the legal trouble that awaits Desravines, the court also ordered him to stay away from Jayden and his younger brother.
