Retired Cop Accused Of Child Molestation Appears In Court

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - One of the few times retired Miami cop Juan Roman held his head up in court Monday was right after the judge called his name.

It was quite a difference from his other persona, the caped crusader that he portrayed.

Investigators said they found pictures of him dressed as Batman all the way down to his underwear.

Now he's facing serious allegations of child molestation.

"The defendant fondles the victim's buttock," prosecutor Laura Adams told the judge at a bond hearing, while explaining the allegations.  "Seven years of age."

It began with an arrest several weeks ago.

He was accused of having more than 500 child pornography videos on his hard drive.

Investigators said his username was "Batcave."

When agents began taking a closer look at the videos they said they learned he planted hidden cameras around his Biscayne Park home.

He shook his head as prosecutors spelled out the details.

"He set up a camera," explained Adams, "like a hidden camera and then posed this little girl, a seven-year-old child, who's been identified, in such a way, that as he's fondling her buttock and her genital area multiple times in the videos, that's he's doing so in such a way that should he want to watch that film later on, he can see himself fondling the child," she said.

Investigators said he had another camera hidden near the toilet, capturing a little girl and an adult woman.

Although people were home, no one wanted to talk at his house. "All these allegations he is completely embarrassed and apologetic about," explained Roman's attorney George Cholakis.

He said despite the disturbing allegations, he served for more than 30-years as a Miami police officer and member of the National Guard and has a stack of letters praising his service.

"When you read it, it's just replete with somebody who has compassion, dedication and a love for his community and the people in this community," Cholakis said.

Roman is being held without bond.
