Miami's Tannehill Upset With Way He Has Played

DAVIE (CBSMiami/AP) — Ryan Tannehill says he's upset with the way he has played in the first two games this year for the Miami Dolphins, and knows he needs to bounce back Sunday against Kansas City.

Tannehill came into his third NFL season expecting to make big strides toward becoming a franchise quarterback, but instead he continues to be inaccurate, indecisive and inconsistent.

The Dolphins (1-1) overcame a shaky performance by Tannehill in the opener, thanks in part to Knowshon Moreno's 134 yards rushing. But with Moreno sidelined for at least a month because of an elbow injury, the Dolphins know they must get their passing game going.

"I haven't been playing up to my standards and up to our standards as a team. So just have to get better," said Tannehill. "I just haven't been putting the ball in the right spot. I haven't been at my best. It's got to change and it's got to change fast. I'm looking forward to going out on Sunday and changing it."

He ranks 29th in the league with a passer rating of 76.1, and the Dolphins are last at 4.4 yards per pass play, sacks included.

Tannehill called the situation "frustrating," but said his confidence hasn't wavered.

"I feel good," he said. "Obviously I want it to change. I'm not sitting here happy with how I'm playing, but I go out and I think I play confidently. I step in the huddle with confidence. That's the job of a quarterback is to go out there and be confident, and the communication of the play in the huddle and with my play. You can't go out there and play scared. You play scared, the decision-making slows down and that's when you run into more trouble.

"I'm upset at myself the way I've played, so obviously I want to get it corrected. But we've got a long season ahead of us and it starts with this week. You flip it around in one week and you play well, then you start stringing good games together. It's just a matter of going out and taking care of business this week."
