Jungle Island Reveals Master Plans For Renovation
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - There is going to be a rumble in the jungle at Miami's Jungle Island. The interactive zoological park is planning a major renovation.
Jungle Island has teamed up with the Iconic Attractions Group to transform the park.

The San Diego-based management company released conceptual plans for the zoo, which includes "new attractions and sub-destinations that tie in the diverse culture of the 18-acre park's South Florida surroundings with journeys authentic of the jungle," according to their press release.
"We want our guests to enjoy a real jungle experience in the heart of Miami," said John Dunlap, CEO of Iconic Attractions Group and President of Jungle Island. "Over the course of five years, our plan is to transform Jungle Island from a zoological attraction into a destination for eco adventures. The goal is to provide immersive, repeatable experiences to visitors who have a shared desire to learn, celebrate, and participate in nature's wonders."
These "eco adventures" Dunlap talks about are meant to be experienced from the moment you walk in.
The entrance to the park will be transformed with vine-encrusted gates, stone columns and balconies that peek through the ferns. At the center will be a massive tree that anchors a new zip-line system. There will also be a plaza outfitted with an oasis-like market place where guests can purchase food and souvenirs.
Guests that want a refreshing experience can visit the parks new "Lost Lagoon" that offers "a series of pools, waterways, falls, and other aquatic adventures." A sandy beach will be added where people can snorkel and swim.
If the Lost Lagoon is not enough for the guests, "Parrot Cove" will offer more beach-like experiences.
The cove will be at the furthest tip of the island and features a redeveloped private beach. Zoo-goers can zip-line right into the water or climb permanent sand castles. For underwater fun people can use aqua jets, snorkel or take scuba diving classes.
Jungle Island said Parrot Cove can be configured for rental of private and special functions.
At the heart of the Jungle Island, the park is adding "Watson's Village." The village will feature tribal architecture and a revamped amphitheater, which includes live music and dancing. There will be a picnic area and a climbing zone for kids, where they can mimic the orangutans in the habitat nearby.
The park added in their press release there will be an assortment of animal encounter packages that guests can experience.
Jungle Island already spent $700,000 to renovate the Treetop Ballroom and Arboretum, which started in August and has been finished.
Iconic Attractions Group and Jungle Island have not released when the massive renovation will begin or what it will cost.
