No Bond For Man Accused Of Taking Car With Children Inside

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) –  A man accused of taking a car with children inside is behind bars and will remain there.

On Saturday, Henri Du-Preez, 35, faced a judge who ordered him to be held on no bond due to his charges.

Broward Sheriff's Office said Du-Preez took the car, drove it a few miles away and dropped the children off while they were still in their car seats. He allegedly left them in the back of a pickup truck. Detectives later tracked him down and arrested him.

It all started after the children's mother left them in her car with the keys inside while she shopped.

When she exited the store, her car and her kids were gone, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The children, a three-years-old and one-year-old, were later reunited with their family.

BSO says there might be a child abuse investigation and the mother might face charges for leaving the kids in the car.

At the scene where the kids were left in the back of this truck a woman, who declined to give her name, said she heard the boys and tried to comfort them.

"Two little angel little boys," she said. "We gave them cookies and juice."

Investigators said they're pleased the boys are safe and the lesson is you cannot leave your kids in a car by themselves.

"It is simply not safe," said Gina Carter of BSO. "Any opportunistic criminal who is walking by and sees that you left your keys in the car is not gonna take the time to see what else you left in the car so it's really important, if you're a parent, to always, always have your eyes on your kids."

Du-Preez is facing charges of child neglect without great bodily harm, grand theft, and kidnapping for each child.
