3 New Cases Of Dengue Fever In Miami-Dade
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Those pesky mosquitoes in South Florida are causing more problems. Health officials have issued a mosquito-borne disease alert for Miami-Dade County after confirming three more cases of locally acquired dengue fever.
Late last month, health officials confirmed that a 49-year-old and two 64-year-olds had contracted dengue fever in the county. That brings the total of locally acquired dengue fever cases in Miami-Dade County so far this year to four.

Mosquitoes transmit the dengue fever virus. Symptoms include high fevers and severe muscle and joint pain. There's no specific treatment or vaccine.
Dengue fever is widespread in other parts of the world, but local officials hope to contain it whenever it appears in the U.S.
Residents are encouraged to drain standing water around their homes and wear mosquito repellent.
Last year, 23 cases of locally acquired dengue were confirmed in Florida.
