Lauderdale Man Charged In Ex-Lover's Death
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A call for a well-being check led police to a deadly discovery in a Ft. Lauderdale town home.
On September 10th, friends of 35-year old Otis Blue became concerned after not seeing him. A friend and Blue's ex-boyfriend, Maurice Goodman called police to report him missing.
Police said that Blue had last been with Goodman at 1222 Flagler Drive. Goodman shares that town home with a roommate, and police say Blue used to live there.
When officers arrived they were met by William Cerda who now shares the townhome with Goodman. Cerda let the officers inside and told them that Goodman's bedroom was on the second floor.
When Goodman opened the door to his bedroom, the officers noted a foul odor and feet visible on a bed, according to their report. When asked if Blue was in the room, Goodman reportedly replied "yes."
When officers fully opened the door to the bedroom they found Blue's body on the bed under blood soaked covers. There was also large amounts of blood on the floor, the bed and the wall.
When the officers asked Goodman how Blue died, he replied "I hit him in the head," according to the report. Goodman added that it had happened the previous day.
Goodman was taken into custody and during questioning reportedly admitted to killing Blue. He's been charged with one count of first degree murder.
Neighbor Gloria Dudley says Goodman had looked visibly depressed in recent days, and she says the room mate, Cerda told her why.
"(He said) he's in a state of depression because him and his lover are arguing," Dudley told CBS4's Natalia Zea.
Some of Blue's friends showed up to the scene and saw his body. Neighbor Kevin Slaght saw one of them arguing with Goodman while he sat in a patrol car.
"He was fighting with the guy in the police car, the guy that killed his boyfriend and they were threatening each other through the window," said Slaght.
Dudley was shaken by the violence.
"It scared me because me being upstairs, being by myself and being so close to home, that is scary," said Dudley.
Sources told Zea that after his arrest Goodman told officers he had drank something which gave them a reason to have him checked out by a doctor. He was taken to an area hospital before booked in jail.
