Roommate Argument Leads To Robbery At Gunpoint

FLORIDA KEYS (CBSMiami) - A mother coming to her son's aid was beaten with a baseball bat when he tried to move out of a Key Largo apartment.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the 17-year old, his mother and grandmother were moving things out of his apartment when his two ex-roommates showed up.

Ex-roomies Chavely Sanchez, 25, and Luis Armenteros, 26, along with a third person known only as "Pudgy", began arguing who owned the property.

The sheriff's office said Sanchez beat and kicked the 17-year-old's mother; she ended up with a broken finger and wrist. While Sanchez hit the mother, Armenteros pointed a gun at the teen, according to investigators.

Pudgy reportedly stole a gold chain and bracelet from the teen before he hit the mother over the head with a baseball bat.

According to the sheriff's office, the three suspects left in two different cars.

Deputies pulled over Sanchez and Armenteros. In the car authorities said they found a loaded handgun, a baseball bat and a U-Haul trailer key which had been rented by the victims.

Sanchez was charged with aggravated battery, grand theft and robbery. Armenteros was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and robbery. The search continues for Pudgy.
