Locals To Protest Against Dolphin Slaughter Season

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Locals are expected to gather Friday outside of the Consulate of Japan in protest of dolphin slaughter season in Japan.

The protest is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. and finish at around 6:00 p.m.

The planned protest is just days before the start of  the dolphin slaughter season in Taiji, Japan which starts September 1st.

Each year the fisherman in Taiji are given a quota to hunt for different species of dolphins which will either be slaughtered or taken into captivity.

This year the quota is set to 1,938 dolphins in total.

Organizers of the annual event say it will be a peaceful protest.
