Miami-Dade Police Officer Jobs No Longer In Danger
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police officers who were on the cusp of losing their jobs are no longer in danger according to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez.
The 110 jobs are now reportedly saved in the County budget.
Gimenez managed to remove the cuts from his proposed budget because the county is selling some rescue helicopters and switching to lease arrangements, and Jackson Health System's leaving the county's health insurance fund.
The money added up to about $9 million in new savings according to CBS4 news partner, The Miami Herald.
Several county commissioners had said they would not approve of police cuts.
While the officers may not be in danger of layoffs, the Miami-Dade Police Department still faces stuffing cuts among the civilian ranks.
Gimenez said he had no update on how many civilian investigators and administrators would lose their jobs in the budget year that begins Oct 1.
