Fire Rescue Lieutenant Relieved Of Duty For Alleged Solicitation Of Minor

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A City of Miami Fire Rescue Lieutenant, arrested for solicitation of a minor, bonded out of jail Thursday morning and has been placed on a relieved of duty status.

Ramon Marti, 58, responded to a classified ad posted by an undercover detective posing as a 15-year-old female, according to the Pembroke Pines Police Department.

On Thursday, the City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue released a statement regarding Marti's arrest—to which police say he confessed to the charges.

The statement reads, in part: "The City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue has been made aware of an ongoing investigation and subsequent arrest involving one of our employees while off duty."

Also, according to the statement, Marti "been placed in a "relieved of duty" status" while the department investigates.

Detectives said Marti engaged in sexually explicit verbal conversations and sent obscene materials of himself despite knowing the females age.

An arrest warrant was issued on August 26th. Marti was arrested in Miami on Wednesday morning.

According to Marti's LinkedIn and Facebook profiles, he has been a Miami firefighter for 20 years and graduated from The University of Miami.

Neighbors said they are stunned.

"Very shocking, he's a normal guy, he's a good neighbor, quiet and always says hello, helpful," said neighbor Michael Dennis. "You know, you expect something more from your firefighters," said neighbor Michael Dennis.

Marti is facing charges for online solicitation or a minor and the unlawful use of a two-way device. Marti was also charged with the unlawful use of a two-way device (cell phone).

Detectives said Marti confessed to the charges.

Police are still working to identify potential victims.
