Elderly Woman Robbed During Home Invasion

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- Hollywood Police said they are looking for three men involved in a home invasion robbery that targeted an elderly victim.

The incident happened on July 9th at a house on Arthur Street and North 59th Avenue in Hollywood, according to police.

The victim Miriam Arementero Torre, 76, said she is in South Florida visiting her daughter from Cuba and was home alone when someone knocked on the door.

Surveillance video shows a man forced his way in.

"I was scared," said Armentero Torre through a translator.

Armentero Torre said the young man grabbed her, put his hand over her mouth and told her to be quiet. Out of fear for her life, she said she didn't fight back.

"If I resisted they could have killed me," she said.

Armentero Torre watched as a second man scoured each room. She said the thieves stole two safes filled with passports, important family documents and cash.

Armentero Torre told CBS4's Gaby Fleischman her daughter was saving up to go visit her sick father in Cuba.

Hollywood police said a third man was waiting in a silver 4-door getaway car, possibly a Suzuki. Video shows the men loading both safes into the trunk of the vehicle.

"My daughter said the best thing that could have happened is that they didn't kill you," said Armentero Torre. "Papers can be replaced but your life can't."

Detectives believe the three crooks are in their early 20's. They are asking anyone with information to call the Hollywood Police Department at 954.967.HELP or 954.967.4411.

Information can also be given to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954.493.TIPS or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
