MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police are searching for a man and a woman who took part in a stabbing that left one man dead and another in critical condition.
It all happened inside an apartment in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
Detectives and crime scene investigators have been inside the bloody scene, investigating the crime that took place at four o’clock Friday morning.
K-9’s and police officers searched the area near Northwest 11th Avenue and 3rd Street for most of the morning, even peeking into dumpsters with guns drawn. They were looking for a man who lives in apartment building, suspected of stabbing two men inside his unit; one in the neck, and the other multiple times all over his body.
“Two males were stabbed. One subsequently died of his injuries and one is in very critical condition at Jackson Memorial’s trauma center,” said Miami Police spokeswoman Frederica Burden.
As police notify the families of the murdered man who was in his 40s and the one who was critically injured, they’re still piecing together what went wrong. They say a woman was visiting the man and then the two victims came in separately.
“Just basically socializing at the time and I guess one said something one of the other men didn’t like and a fight broke out,” said Burden.
“This is horrible, it’s horrible,” neighbor Zoraine Vichot told CBS4’s Natalia Zea.
Vichot grew up across the street from this building. She said her childhood neighborhood has changed dramatically. Another man was shot to death inside another apartment here just two months ago.
“I live here, my mom’s scared, we can’t even walk sometimes at night,” said Vichot. “It’s just, I’m scared. This neighborhood has gotten really bad.”
And she won’t rest easy until police find the suspect in this latest murder…a man who police say is her neighbor.
“I hope they catch them. I hope this stops.”
Police have not yet released the name of the victim who was killed, or the one who is recovering in the hospital. Call police If you have information that can help police find the stabbing suspect and the woman who left with him.
