MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Two men are recovering after being hit by a car in Wilton Manors on Monday night and the victims believe it was ‘no’ accident.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of the victims told CBS 4 that they were walking to their car on NE 9th Avenue approximately 9:45 pm on Monday night when a white car head-on veered in their direction.

“When it got to us, it jerked to the right and sent me into the street and my friend into the bushes.  The car got stuck in the dirt.”

He said four people were inside the vehicle.  They never said a word.

“It could have been racial. It could have been gang related.  We are in a predominantly gay neighborhood but it was deliberate because they stopped, looked at us and then took off.”

Russell Benfir and Kenny Oliver were just steps behind walking down the same street.   They saw the two victims on the ground.

“I saw blood gushing from his head,” said Benfir.  “It’s upsetting that someone has no care for human life and what could have happened.”

Oliver said he believes the driver knew what he was doing.

“The way the car was stuck in the dirt, I think it was deliberate,” said Oliver.

Wilton Manors police are still trying to figure out if it was deliberate or something else.

Investigators said, at the very least, it is a hit-and-run because the driver never stopped to render aid to the two people who were hurt.

The victim wants the driver caught.

“If it was gay related, this is a big gay pride weekend in Wilton Manors. I wouldn’t want to see anyone else mowed down.”

If you have information you are asked to call Broward Crimestoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
