At 38, Heat’s Ray Allen Is Still Strong On The Court

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – He’s been on the big screen and the NBA’s big stage and at 38-years-old, Ray Allen is still going strong.
“I don’t look at this as an age thing for me,” Ray Allen said. “I always laugh because I see, the birthdays for some of the younger guys. They were born in the 90s. In the 90s I was kicking it hard.”
Allen is a two-time champ and 10-time All-Star. He knows what it takes to succeed and loves competition.

“With that carrot dangling over your head you always want to try chase it and find out how you can be better. You know, just because I’ve gotten older, doesn’t mean I’ve stopped doing that.”
Ray Allen’s character, ability and approach to the game doesn’t go unnoticed in the Heat’s locker room.
“You see most guys that are 38, 39-years-old, they’re dependent but they just can’t really get over the hump,” Chris Bosh said. “He’s a freak. Just what he can do, his work ethic, and his ability to do what he does.”
“If you’ve been around Ray, you understand why he’s Ray Allen,” Shane Battier said. “He’s an amazingly driven person. But, he’s better than most of us. There’s a reason they call him Jesus.”
As in Jesus Shuttlesworth, his name from his move He Got Game. Now Allen’s real-life basketball experience is what’s preparing him for life after hoops.
“I feel like I could get any job in the world after this because this is one of the hardest things that I’ve ever done,” Allen said. “I won’t say pressure, but the connectivity that has to take place by each individual. Mentally, you have to be very strong.”
